As long as the original birth certificate has both parents name it will be accepted.
The uploaded documents were not self attested. The photocopy which was sent through post were self attested. Since I sent by post, only photocopies were sent, no original document were sent. For those going in person carry all original but ensure you show and get it back with you and don’t leave with service provider.
No surrender passport first get surrender certificate and then apply for OCI
I did not submit any original documents. For photograph here is the link https://ociservices.gov.in/Photo-Spec-FINAL.pdf I see the background is white
For newborn there was no notary. The birth certificate was sufficient. I did this is in Canada so must be same everywhere unless your jurisdiction has such requirement.
Yes, first surrender the India passport, get surrender certificate and then apply for OCI. This is the only option.
If you have supporting documents (sole custody, court order, or a written explanation), you can email the Consulate General of India (CGI) with those details and ask how to proceed. They might review such cases individually and will guide you based on the documents provided.
Without consent or supporting documents from the other parent, my logic says that the application will not be accepted so better to seek this information directly with CGI before applying.
Best way to get answer is to join local Indian social media group and ask this question as someone would have done recently. When I sent my application by post I got it within 6 weeks. Standard timeline is 4-6 weeks time. Hope this helps.
Since there is a dropdown where country of birth is selected and in your case you will select India, just write Kolkata. If you face any challenge when submitting note the name of the person, date and time and also say you will write a declaration that this form is being sent as it is and it is your responsibility. You will have no issue.
Yes, two separate demand draft. In 2025, changes were made where you can submit payment by card. Check the service provider/CGI website for latest.
Thank, I submitted my child OCI application with out single error and in a one day. Just cos of your nice video. I submitted it in-person at BLS office so only one bank draft was sufficient. Now hopefully I'll receive it within 6-week time frame. Fingers crossed 🤞
How did you get the appointment. It showing all dates booked until May 2022.
I booked my appointment in mid of December only. I believe after December there was huge traffic on BLS site. All the appointment got booked. You can try by post option.
I received OCI on 7th week.
I just scanned and uploaded my documents without attestation. Only photocopies were attested
Can you please tell me how you self attested? By writing 'self-attested' or by writing 'true copy'? followed by signature and date.
Even for walkin application we need to take demand draft of 345$ in the favor of 'consulate general of India, Toronto'....just FYI
I just signed and wrote my name below, so did my wife where applicable.
Https://www.mea.gov.in/Portal/CountryNews/12208_OCI_Card_Advisory_.pdf this link to government page will help ease any question in mind. I have made detailed video on reissue and updating of OCI Card https://youtu.be/BBDEVCKcSAw explaining this in detail
For the latest fee always check the CGI website from the country where you are applying for. For example check here https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/page/oci-fee/
For address proof only one parent has to submit. I submitted my Ontario driving license
The correct specifications need to be maintained. Please check the photo requirements given in the website
Please follow each step after 16:08, I have shown exactly what I have done this will clear your confusion, if you feel video to be fast, just pause and follow. do let me know if you still have confusion. All the best https://youtu.be/K78GTnxG7R0
Even those on work permit can apply for OCI s your child I Canada citizen. The place where I have shown I uploaded PR/CoPR, you will need to upload WP. Please check the document list if there is confusion, a call to BLS is a good idea. It's easy
Logically work permit is legal document however I suggest call to BLS once.
Yes
I had not submitted this. I don't know what this is. If it is minor child born here just follow my video and you will not go wrong ☺️
For my child I took her fingerprint on plain paper and then took photo from mobile (ensured that quality is good) and uploaded. Yes same like photo. For girl it said right hand and for boy it said left hand.
While PR card has the validity date I also sent CoPR. hope this helps
I submitted birth certificate photocopy without any attestation from Ontario, the birth certificate had both parents name mentioned. Just my wife and I attested our signature.
For India passport Cancellation you will have to do that with Indian consulate, its your responsibility. Once you surrender your passport you will get surrender certificate after which you can apply for OCI.
No uploaded documents were not attested
No. I just sent copy of birth certificate
It is not pasted, just send hard copy. I had secured everything with paper clip and had made hand written checklist
I had submitted my driving license for the address proof so it should be fine. The process with CGI is same only agency dealing in Canada vs US is different. As long as you are able to establish that you both are parents CGI will not have problem however it is best to call BLS to see if any additional documents need to be sent which to my logic need not be. Better speak once to them.
The uploaded documents were not attested only physical copy were
Things keep changing, as per the latest each application/applicant to send application separately. Call the service provider to know more.
The documents which are being uploaded need not be attested. The physical copy which will be getting sent needs to be self attested. I did it that way.
No I did not send original passport just photocopies attested
Gotcha, I think its latest requirement. Thanks again!
Please speak to BLS don't go by checklist given on their website :)
Thanks for the advice, Called BLS and spoke to the Agent. Tried to bring the attention towards the checklist points to Original and she politely disregarded that and quoted copies are fine.
For Temp work permit, please speak to BLS once. With regard to thumb impression, one was just below the baby photo on application form (This was taken on a blank piece of paper and uploaded), and on the declaration form it was signature of application section. Hope this helps. Self attest is nothing but putting your signature and writing your full name below. For Brampton when I was trying getting appointment was difficult hence I sent it by post. All details given in the video.
Https://www.blsindia-canada.com/vancouver-jurisdiction/contact.php, please check the address for Brampton given here in this link
You can open a new application to circumvent the upload document problem. I am not sure how the document can be deleted as it has been some time. Application is not final until it is completely filled and you pay money 💰Regarding PR card(expired) I have no idea. For the OCI application when I was filling, I realised that anyone parents/grandparents need to be Indian citizen. Logically expired PR of wife should not be problem however those handling documents can be tricky. Quick call to BLS would be a good idea. For the self attestation of, yes copy of long form and birth certificate needs to be signed by both parents
No originals were submitted
No originals were submitted.
No original documents were sent
While there are many online software available I would not recommend for passport due to sensitivity. Instead use paint to open photo and resize but remember to make duplicate copy. Even reducing to 80% will give significant savings
Regarding family ties. I don't have the answer to your question however logically If I want to be OCI I should get without anyone in India if I was Indian before
6 weeks exactly
I don't see anywhere written if OCI card need to be changed Incase of new passport. I encourage you to speak to BLS for the right answer. Check the video where I have given details of when to reissue and when to update OCI. https://youtu.be/BBDEVCKcSAw
Just make sure all documents are available. I had made a checklist and had organised accordingly. I had not pasted photo but secured with paper clip to ensure service agency gets the photo.
My friend did pick up his OCI from BLS location without paying anything extra and that should be the case. Just insist that you want to pick yourself.
Please check hospital records. If you don't find then look for birth mark, mole, patch. These are permanent. Make sure to write as accurate as possible. For example black mole on right side of nose or black patch on left hand upper arm or pigment on right upper arm. These are examples please Google it and you will get more ideas. Hope this helps
No I did not paste.
If you do have immediate or close relatives residing in India (parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.), it's okay to provide their details — it might help in cross-verification if required, but it’s optional. If you don’t have stating “No” won’t impact your application as long as you meet the criteria. If possible keep me updated
OCI Application | Prepare Photo & signature images with paint for upload on Windows PC https://youtu.be/v1luNOeJXC4
Yes sir. You still need to give spousal details and marriage certificate
When was surrender done. Maybe adding surrender certificate is a recent year inclusion. Please write to CGI first and then apply for OCI to avoid dealing issues with service provider
Give your contact number and a handwritten letter that since you are housewife kept the same number and if service provider says that you should leave blank tell them to send them for process as it
The new name will be the name to be given for OCI and you will add name change document and the passport should also reflect new name. Since your new passport will have the updated name it will not be a problem. Just check with BLS if any notarization is required for photocopies when you submit.
Just mention the profession of parent before death, that will do. Even if you select others detail will have to be mentioned in next line. As long as death certificate of parents go along with application this will be taken care.
Foreign passport doesn’t have address usually like Indian passport. You must be having government issued ID like driving license etc. please give that where the address is mentioned. If you don't have every country has provision for photo id please get one made.
Just mention unemployed and also write that on a piece of paper and attach along with other document. That is okay
Since you are doing application together. Answer will be No.
Just give your self employment information. In case you have corporation add that details as photocopy. Call service provider once they might want original when you do walk in.
No worries. If you have incorporation attach the incorporation certificate that’s what recently my friend did. Don’t share any sensitive info like pay or SIN number as there is service provided involved between you and consulate. Also a call to service provider will help
Thank you for sharing. The marriage certificates are not consistent across states however you have pointed out a valid point. I would still ask once to call service provider to be on safer side to understand what to enter.
I called bls and they told me that I can fill in my Canadian passport number.
They confirmed that both are accepted. Canadian Passport Number or Citizenship Certificate
For OCI it is Canadian passport.
On evisa OCI not possible only you can initiate surrender certificate. Check this video on various option https://youtu.be/LB5p9RJDD8A
It's funny that on the checklist, they ask for canceled passport and then also Nativity/ School Leaving Certificate.. I'll see what happens when I go to my appointment.. thanks for replying
No worries, if possible please keep me updated. Everything should be okay
Roots here will be father since daughter is a foreigner
With your current passport you can travel to any country with valid visa. Hope I got your question right
I had taken photo from professional studio. When I took photo for citizenship, I had asked the studio to also do it as per India specifications and it worked well
When I did my OCI I left this section blank as this was my first Canada passport however on few occasions individuals have commented that they were asked to give India passport details which to me does not make logic but a call to service provider will help you fill this part correctly.
Typically, this refers to immediate family members such as parents, your siblings, spouse, and children. It generally does not include extended family such as your dad's siblings (aunts and uncles). If they have OCI card please look for file number, it will be written on the OCI card enter that in reference number and date will be date of OCI card issue.
Since you are applying for OCI via your British passport and were born a Canadian citizen but also have British citizenship: If your British citizenship was automatically acquired at birth because your parents were British citizens, it would be "By Descent." o Acquisition Method: By Descent o Date: Your birth date If you applied for and were granted British citizenship through a registration process (e.g., after your birth), it would be "By Registration." Typically this means British citizen at birth because one or both of your parents were British citizens: o Acquisition Method: By Registration o Date: The date when you were granted British citizenship through the registration process. This is my understanding. Just to be sure a call to service provider before sending will be helpful and also if you could let me know the outcome.
Thank you - this makes sense
Unfortunately Surrender first and OCI next. Roots to India will be self. Remaining go as per the video
You can ask employers to give in letter head that you work with them and basic details like your designation, date of joining. Company address and contact person info. Joining letter will also work
No PIO has been discontinued only after which OCI has been introduced
You may want to register for earrival https://youtu.be/UVV-O4iB9YE and FTI-TTP https://youtu.be/6FM51pi-RBs. Carry your OCI along with your current nationality passport, this is your India visa without any expiry date. Depending on age and passport renewal update with CGI
The renunciation certificate will go as supporting document when sending physical copy. If you want you can create one pdf with cancelled passport and upload. Thank you
Passport first and last page only
Since you have relinquished recently you can choose self
For place of birth, just mention the city name that is mentioned in your canadian passport. We have sections in the oci form that ask for country and state. So you don't have to enter the city and country together (under place of birth section) like how it is mentioned in the Canadian passport, because once your form is filled, country will be displayed twice.Just add the city name alone, as mentioned in your passport.
Citizenship date always for all official purposes
Yes that is correct. For foreign spouse there are few additional requirements including marriage certificate which needs attestation. Also there is a wait of 2 years after marriage for OCI application and spouse has to go through personal interview. Let me know if you have any specific question.
Which year was your OCI issued. It makes no sense if you did not live for long duration in India after OCI
You just need to have company details, your designation, from date and address of company. If you don’t have this on company letter head you can write on piece of paper and submit with explanation
Thanks for your reply. My OCI was issued in 2016. I was around 15 years old at that time. Now do I need to reissue my OCI because I am 21 years old? Moreover, I need to apply for my PCC of India from Canada and would I first need to reissue my OCI card first to apply for my Indian PCC?
OCI Card holder, who obtained the OCI card at the age of 20 years or below, is required to get the OCI Card re-issued only once when a new passport is issued after completing 20 years of age. Have you been Issued new passport after getting OCI in 2016? this will answer your question. Hope this helps. Check this video. https://youtu.be/BBDEVCKcSAw
Some Individual who stay in India and are from Goa who got citizenship of Portugal, Pondicherry who got French Citizenship did reach out to me earlier so I guess this is a common occurrence. Can you call FRRO as I am sure they get such cases and will have reasonable solution for you as you have all the record on getting this new passport. Also if you can educate me on what the process is in such situation will help others.
You can share job offer letter hiding information like salary or you can ask company to give basic details and also mention your mat leave. Even otherwise you can fill company details on a piece of paper(A4) and mention that you are currently in maternity leave and that should do. Hope this helps
Foreign spouse can submit application for OCI on the basis of Indian origin spouse only after two years of valid marriage.
Passport: your latest nationality passport National Identification: Born in Canada( passport), Acquired citizenship (citizenship certificate number)
Can you explain how spouse has both India and Canada passport. I guess you both got Canada citizenship together just now. In your case it is Canada passport.
Yes when you have change of name you will apply using the current name and you will have to submit name change documents in addition to other document
No OCI is for lifetime you just need to update by going to the website. Check this video https://youtu.be/BBDEVCKcSAw
You can merge both as pdf. Desi tarika. Get that in word document or ppt and save as pdf
This question is to check if you have ever been denied OCI before. I am hoping you all three have applied together if so you can choose NO.
If he can why not. Go ahead
Please mention their last held details
Don’t send this form as there is no edit option after submitting. Just create a new application using same credentials and upload correct documents. Make sure to send this application along with documents
For new born or Canadian by birth It will be Canadian passport/ for New citizens you can enter citizenship certificate. Don’t worry as you will send both citizenship certificate and Canada passport as copy
Yes you can apple as you are surrendering the current one even if it is expired
Color photos and send that separately. I secured with metal paper clip. Application can be B&W. I sent B&W application printouts
SIN is like a password. Don’t share it even if Prime Minister of Canada asks you
Just mention their occupation.(last held details)
You need physical copy two in number 1. For Surrender certificate 2. For OCI The digital of the same is upload. Hope this helps
Since you have recently relinquished the citizenship of India the answer would be “Self”. For spouse I am not sure where the question is. Can you direct me to timeline on my video. For spouse you will choose nationality as Indian
In case of Divorce, upload divorce certificate(Divorce Decree)
Never to enter SIN number in public document. Just enter Citizenship number
Your OCI card is life long visa. your US passport and your OCI will take care of both ways
I am not sure. A call to Service provider will help. I am sure there might have been such cases before them
I think checklist doesnt mention marriage related document so better leave it. u can just put status separated. I havent submitted yet, but in process and trying more to clarify all these.
My thought was to choose separated but when I made a call to BLS, they mentioned if I choose separated, I will have to send a document from the court proving I am separated but not divorced yet. The person I spoke to said to put married and upload the marriage certificate and spouse passport to avoid this mess
They didn’t ask me as such a document. I asked at counter as well, even form they filled on their own due to just some adds error. counter person asked one senior guy too, that does he need any document as such. He said only if divorce selected then decree required.
Hello sir, Thank you for the amazing video. I have one question. I will be on maternity leave while applying OCI.. what should I put in occupation section?
You are still employee of the company while on maternity leave unless you have quit. So if you are working with a service company you can choose private service and share your company details. Thank you
You don’t give your passport to anyone. If you physically go to service provider location you show them and keep it with you. If you do it with courier service you just send photocopies self attested. Many have made mistake of sending original passport. Don’t do that
Once I did with scanner and next time with my mobile phone. Both had no issues. Check the format. If not jpeg you can do conversion online and rename the file.
It worked, the trick was to simply rename the file (to something very simple) thanks
You are good to travel anytime to India Carry Canada passport and OCI when traveling. just check Arrival and FTI_TTP which you might want to do. https://youtu.be/UVV-O4iB9YE and https://youtu.be/6FM51pi-RBs
No restrictions if you choose to work in private sector. I was also made aware that one of the IIM assistant professor is an OCI.
There is an Australian citizen OCI card holder who is a professor at an Indian management institute. So yes, it's possible.
OCI holder need to have a valid passport which means not an expired one
Pension won’t be affected. He will have to convert his bank account to NRO and keep getting pension. If you are planning to get to India then this part you will have to figure out with bank as you will loose money in conversion
Anything before citizenship is okay. After Citizenship the restriction is for agricultural land only. You can buy house, apartment, commercial space just like anyone.
Yes just get an IDP from Canada. If the stay in India is more than a year then apply for new driving license.
As an OCI cardholder, you can live in India indefinitely — there is no restriction on the length of stay. Just ensure that your British passport remains valid and that you comply with all Indian laws. Since you’ve been in India for over 6 years, you are considered a Resident for tax purposes under Indian law.(use this part for education purpose only and get this cleared by a competent CA). If your income in India is below ₹3 lakhs per annum, and you are below 60 years of age, you are not required to pay income tax (as per the basic exemption limit). If you earn income from outside India, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between India and the UK may apply — this avoids you being taxed twice on the same income. Even with low income, it's often a good idea to file a tax return to keep your records clean, especially if you plan to invest, apply for loans, or make visa/travel declarations. I’ve created a separate video explaining residency-based taxation for OCIs in India, including common scenarios for NRIs and dual residents however that video is for general information. With regard to tax matter always seek guidance from a qualified competent professional which I am not.
How to acquire Indian citizenship step by step https://youtu.be/kueNdau31KQ
If you are taking about Indian pension. Yes it has no impact on your current citizenship. Pension you earn is for the service you have rendered, citizenship change has no impact
You are OCI. PIO has been discontinued. If you don't have OCI then you are foreign national. Hope this helps.
It will be you (Parents)
In Canada we did not submit any notarized documents. We did self attestation and that was sent only as hard copy if I remember.
So, it looks like we can first upload the unauthorized parental authorization form without notorizing it and then generate the application, take both the application and the parental authorization form to notorize, however, the new checklist doesn't say anything about notorizing the application form, so we don't have to worry about the application not being notorized. Hope this helps :)
Only when the stay is long term not on visitor or evisa. I have made a detailed video on how this happens. https://youtu.be/LB5p9RJDD8A
Yes relationship with roots to India “father” is correct even though you are now citizen of Canada. And in your case you will mention Canada as citizenship. Thank you
Yes that is okay
In your child’s case parents will be Canadian citizen and roots to India will be parents. When I did application for our daughter, we were Indian citizen. For parents who are now foreign national – Passport copy of parents are required to be enclosed, with old Indian Passport copies of parents. Please call BLS to avoid any surprises
Child has to sign or give thumbs impression. Parents to sign consent form. Please follow video you will not go wrong
India visa section. Both required
In your wife’s case it will be CoPR and PR card. In your case Canadian passport and if you have OCI too. Baby will get OCI based on mother being Indian. Also do check other documents what is needed from the CGI/BLS website.
Do you have incorporation if yes you can add that detail and a letter explaining nature of work. If not registered and are part of gig economy or freelancer add some of invoices and bank statements corresponding to the same showing transaction. Also call service provider once.
Can you look into husband's oci card and find file reference number (It is mentioned on OCI card) With that call the service agency and they should be able to pull this detail. If not, they will guide you on what to do.
By logic only 4 pages are required. Agencies are making money by asking you to take printout for $5 each so better take all 7 pages. Checklist you can make and self sign
Photo/ Sugnature - jpeg/jpg format All other documents-pdf
Only if foreign spouse
You will apply for OCI based on your own eligibility as Indian origin. Select "self" as option
Yes military service done in any foreign country is basis for rejecting. When you fill the last part of form which has Yes/No any response as Yes gets close scrutiny. Unfortunately here they won’t.
Hi I am not sure if this will work. Toronto CGI has every Wednesday open house where they attend to concerns of Individual. Can you see if you can get audience. They may have some update for you
Thank you so much for your valuable feedback sir, however I live in Sweden
They reject saying because he did military service he can not get OCI, as me as it depends and we are married for more than 2 years.
It can be from anyone place. If the marriage is solemnized in India, Marriage certificate issued by Marriage Registrar will do. If the marriage is solemnized in foreign country, it should be apostled/ certified by the concerned Indian Mission/ Post. If the marriage certificate is in any foreign language other than English, it should be translated in English by authorized translator. In my case I was married under special marriage act in India and both of us were Indian still we had to get apholsted at MEA
Add the cancelled page too.
I am sure there are others in similar situation. Can you call BLS once. You can mention that you cannot get passport details however for record you will still be asked marriage certificate
They want me to wait till divorce is settled which is God knows when. I don’t know why it matters so much to them. Even Canadian passport applications it less complicated.
You can stay as long as you want (forever) with OCI it does not have expiry provided you are on right side of law always
For point 2 no more this is requirement, you just update the passport details online. only in point 1 you go for renewed OCI Card
Check this video https://youtu.be/tOak2tLtDUs where someone shared his experience. If yours is similar situation.
Please apply from Canada. You can initiate for your baby. Give your Canadian address as proof of residence and do rest as shown in video. For you and your husband you will be sharing your status in Canada and US document which includes passport. Don’t worry as long as all documents are correct it will be good. Before you send to BLS check with them on documents to send
Yes in your case you can apply as your roots to India will be father. Please go ahead
Yes you need to give name change documents and rest will be good
You can upload the declaration and write on the same that you never had voter id or ration card. My friend did this recently and got his OCI. Remember you need to be absolutely sure that you never had when you do this declaration as the onus is on you to prove this.
Yes, you need to register your marriage. They won’t grant your application without it
Surrender Indian Passport & Apply for OCI: All Scenarios Explained https://youtu.be/LB5p9RJDD8A
Yes please
Ultimately the workaround I used was to have my family member in India submit the Form 7 request on my behalf in the voter portal and use that submission confirmation. If your family member in India is registered in the portal, that person can look you up using your EPIC id and submit the request on your behalf. When you click Form 7 option, you can see both options - “Self” as well as “Other”.
I registered without an Indian Phone number. You can also sign up with your email ID and get an OTP to your email.
I ended up calling my ward office.they advised to send a relative if we weren't present in India.. My dad went there and it was done easily. All the best
Ask someone in india submit form 7 on behalf of you. They can submit that and acknowledge. I submitted my oci form using this. Hope it works.
Try this way. Ask someone in india your relative make an update in form 8 for you, they can update self and also others and wait for it to be corrected, i mean the name and mobile number extra. It will take 1 week time and then once that form 8 is updated, Ask the same person to submit form 7 on behalf of you and he can submit it and get that acknowledgement number and submit oci using that. For this first their information has to be updated properly in the profile. I submitted mine using this method and waiting for reply. hope this works.
Thanks for sharing this, super helpful! The virtual keyboard thing is annoying. In web version once the keyboard pops up, click on the text box to highlight cursor and then it allows to type. Don't tab into that field again even by mistake!! It cleared the text and I had to type again, which is massively time consuming.
Please make sure, you inform people to go to Form 8 and get the name as said. It is very important! I made a mistake using my full name(without initials) but in my Voter ID I have initials.
Add a blank space
Thank you very much for a smart tip which works for the dumb site. You are awesome.
Longer is how much longer. With new passport apply for India visa 1 year and recently someone updated that he got within 48 hours. evisa will be given within 2 days for sure
Yes you can apply without surrender of passport. Both are not related
No need to cancel Aadhar. Bank account needs to be updated with status change
Just go to FRRO. Carry your passport that has evisa, India address proof(just in case) and Canadian ID that has address mentioned (DL if you have) and you will have to pay prescribed fee. This should do
I have just completed the process that you mentioned in the video. Only one change- FRRO is not accepting any physical applications. You must apply online- eVisa Conversion to X1 Visa.
Since you have travel in 3 weeks time, check how much time X1 visa from here will take(I guess it will be difficult). In that case the only option you are left with is evisa. Once in India get the X1 visa process done at FRRO and then once you finish the 6 months period you will be able to apply for OCI in India. I am aware that from the time you apply it takes 4-6 weeks time here but for India i am yet to get update, it wont be this long for sure however if your travel plan is coinciding and timeline looks challange as you have to come back you can do that process after coming back. Not a straightforward answer as you will have to take call based on how the situation develops. If you have adequate time getting OCI in India wont be challenge, just make sure you carry all documents in original when you travel.
I applied oci while I was in canada. I went to india using e tourist visa. My husband couriered my OCI card to India. I applied oci conversion in frro website and uploaded documents. I got documents verification email. I went directly to frrro for document verification. Paid conversion fee. Then I got conversion certificate from Frro in email.
Is it possible for someone to get it cancelled locally and get you cancelled letter
I suggest you apply first and get your OCI. Once you have OCI apply for your spouse if you have been married at least for 2 years.
I am yet to see someone get the OCI in this case. Can you please keep me updated if possible
Sure. I think it is highly impossible.
We dont have such agencies here
I guessed it so. Can you please check comment on my previous video. Someone from Maldives did mention that consulate asked him to do the process while he is in India. If that is the case you will need to stay in India for 6 month before you do the process and would require x1 visa to complete the duration so basically about 8-9 months of stay before you get OCI. Pls keep me updated
Have you already surrendered the India passport?
I surrendered by visiting india last month
Yes physical copy one goes seperatly. I have said that in video. No signature on application form but photocopies will have it.
No
Yes, just make sure that the dimensions and size is correct and when you upload signature is inside the box
Https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/docs/1730314174OCI%20Declaration.pdf I have shown for Toronto similarly find for your jurisdiction I have shown in the video
First selection is the State in the OCI application, its a drop down with just one option - Delhi, then the second field is District, again drop down with 3 options - Delhi, New Delhi or Not known, then the third field - Place of Birth which is an open text. So finally, it appears as: "New Delhi, Delhi, India", in the OCI application, which was accepted.
Working in Post office shouldn't be a problem. Please go ahead to appl
Good question.
You are not a citizen until you have citizenship certificate so go ahead as Indian till then. No one will deny
Not required https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/news_letter_detail/?id=150
As long as you don’t submit with FRRO/mission no progress will happen. If you don’t see the application you can fill new and make sure you give correct reference that is shown in the new application. Take printout and submit with other documents and thereafter process will start
Good question! Since you’re not working right now, you can just enter your current home address in the company address field. In your letter, mention that you’re currently in between jobs and include your previous employment details — this helps show what your actual profession is and keeps everything consistent. (This is based on someone’s personal experience shared with me, not official advice.) If a service provider hesitates to accept your application, you can provide a declaration stating that you take full responsibility for it. Please keep me updated!
! Thanks for your question — this is a common situation. Since your Indian passport has your whole name under Given Name and your Canadian passport has it under Surname, here’s a practical way to fill the OCI application: Given Name: Enter FNU (First Name Unknown) if your Canadian passport doesn’t have a separate given name. Surname: Enter your full name exactly as it appears in your Canadian passport. Optional: You can add a brief note explaining the difference between your Indian and Canadian passport names, since it’s not a name change, just a difference in how the name is represented. This is a practical approach, but it’s always a good idea to check with BLS once so you’re comfortable before submitting the application they might suggest writing XXX instead of FNU.
In my daughter’s case I entered her passport details. She is Canadian by birth.
Thank you for sharing, the upside down is not an issue as you were submitting the photocopy anyhow I am glad it went well
Thank you for sharing. Yes the upload of documents can be done on any section
I called Melbourne office, they said use "date of registration" NOT when you were got married.
Since partnership business is run by you/your partner that will have your name listed and the address. Give that document with letter of explanation on business that partnership does(nature of business - business, consulting etc and you as partner, co owner etc) and customer invoice copy, license copy, you can hide sensitive info like revenue details etc as this would go through service provider. this will do. Also do call local service provider to double check on this. Please let me know the outcome.
Do this. Open the photos in ms paint and you get option to reduce size. Bring that to 40%. Then combine all with pdf file as minimum size. This will work. System does not allow two files in same upload section. Let me know if issues
Thank you so much. Worked like a charm :)
Take that pdf to any online pdf compressor and see if you are able to reduce. Even before that is it possible to reduce the image size you import to canvas you may not require the compression method
If you are not able to find one sharing what is in US and Canada, you can customize and have all relevant info and this should work as long as it is notarized. https://www.blsindia-canada.com/vancouver-jurisdiction/pdf/Consent-form-for-minor-applicants-for-OCI-Visa.pdf and https://www.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/india/united-states-of-america/oci-services/pdf/parental-authorization.pdf
Consent letter needs both signatures. You can send the consent letter for other parents signature once you have the signature put your signature in the same form and then submit.
Both parents need to sign even if citizenship is different. For applicant signature part please go through the video it’s already mentioned
There is 2 part here. In signature of applicant minor’s signature/thumb impression will go and in the declaration section both parents need to sign the document and also need to upload their document. Can you please check the document video i have in description. When in comes to notarization I am not sure if US has a separate requirement. Can you check this part and confirm. As far as Canada and all European countries are considered they are not required to notarized
Don’t worry, even for my daughter I had this difficulty and the OCI application went through.
Answer is yes. We filled and signed in front of notary + scanned and then uploaded. I received my oci with that. Same for every other document which require notary
