FTI-TTP: How Indian Passport and OCI Holders Skip the Immigration Queue in India

By Gopi · Last verified

India’s Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) lets registered Indian passport holders and OCI cardholders clear immigration at automated e-Gates in seconds, instead of waiting in the regular queue. It’s free. I registered as an existing OCI holder, because the programme started after I already had my OCI card. Here’s how it works today, including an important change for new OCI applicants.

In short

  • Who can join: Indian nationals and foreign nationals holding an OCI card. Not ECR passports, seafarers or children under 7.
  • Cost and validity: free; valid for 10 years or until your passport expires, whichever is sooner.
  • New OCI applicants: biometrics are now mandatory for the OCI application, and a tick box on the OCI form lets those biometrics register you for FTI-TTP automatically.
  • Existing OCI holders and Indian passport holders: register on the official portal, then give biometrics at a designated Indian airport or an FRRO office.
  • e-Gates at 14 airports, on arrival and departure. No passport stamp at the e-Gate.
  • Before you fly: see my travelling to India with OCI checklist (e-Arrival card, Air Suvidha form, no drones).

Which path is yours?

Applying for a new OCI

Tick the FTI-TTP box on your OCI form

Biometrics (fingerprints and face) are mandatory for OCI applicants, except under 12 and over 70. On the online OCI form, tick the box to share them for FTI-TTP, and you’re registered automatically, with no separate application.

Existing OCI holder or Indian passport My path

Register on the portal, then give biometrics

Apply on the official FTI-TTP portal (steps below), then give your biometrics at a designated international airport in India during travel (the easiest option) or at an FRRO office.

How to register, step by step

My take

The form is simple. What gets applications rejected is small mismatches: a name that isn’t exactly as on your passport or OCI card, or a photo and scans outside the size limits. Check, recheck, cross-check.

  1. Open only the official portal, ftittp.mha.gov.in, and choose Login / Sign Up. Avoid look-alike sites: the service is free.
  2. Create your account with your email (verified by a code), then set a password with more than 8 characters, including upper case, lower case, a number and a special character.
  3. Verify your mobile number with a code. One email and mobile number can be used for up to 6 registrations, so parents can register children aged 7 to 18 with their own contact details.
  4. Apply online and choose your category: Indian national (ordinary passport) or foreign national with an OCI card. If your OCI is linked to an old passport, update it with your new passport first.
  5. Fill in the form exactly as printed on your passport and OCI card: names, date of birth, passport and OCI numbers, parents’ names and your address in your country of residence. Indian passport holders must have an ECNR passport. A permanent resident of another country (for example a Canadian PR) is still an Indian citizen and applies with the Indian passport.
  6. Save the temporary application number shown after you submit the form, so you can finish later.
  7. Upload your documents.
    • Photo: JPEG, 10 KB to 1 MB, not older than 6 months, plain white background, face (with ears) covering three-quarters of the frame.
    • Indian passport holders: passport first and last pages.
    • OCI holders: foreign passport first and last pages, plus OCI card first and last pages.
    • Aadhaar is not accepted as proof of address (the upload screen says so).
    • File sizes: if a file is too big, shrink the photo in Paint (Resize, by percentage), and turn scans into a small PDF by pasting them into Word and choosing Save As, PDF, “Minimum size”.
  8. Submit, then give your biometrics at a designated international airport in India during travel, or at an FRRO office during office hours. Your application is processed only after biometrics, and registration can take up to a month.

Using the e-Gates

  • Go to the FTI-TTP e-Gates instead of the regular immigration queue, on arrival or departure.
  • Scan your passport and boarding pass, then the gate checks your face and fingerprints.
  • No immigration stamp is put in your passport. If you need your travel record, request “Travel Data History” on the e-FRRO portal.
  • Airports with e-Gates (14): Delhi, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Lucknow, Amritsar, Calicut, Trivandrum and Trichy, per the official portal.
  • DigiYatra is separate: being registered for DigiYatra doesn’t let you use FTI-TTP e-Gates.
  • New passport? Update it on the FTI-TTP portal; you don’t need to give biometrics again.

What I've heard

I haven’t used the e-Gates myself yet. People who have tell me the process is smooth, and that they walked past a long queue of travellers who hadn’t registered.

Before you fly to India

FTI-TTP saves time at immigration, but OCI holders also have forms to complete before landing: the e-Arrival card (within 72 hours before arrival) and the Air Suvidha self-declaration form, and you should leave any drone at home. Everything is in my travelling to India with OCI checklist.

Questions people ask

Is FTI-TTP free?

Yes. The official portal says no fee is charged for enrolment.

How long is FTI-TTP valid?

10 years, or until the passport you registered with expires, whichever is sooner. If you get a new passport, update it on the portal; you don’t need new biometrics.

Do new OCI applicants need to apply for FTI-TTP separately?

Not if they tick the FTI-TTP box on the online OCI form. The biometrics taken for the OCI are then shared for FTI-TTP registration.

Where do I give my biometrics?

At a designated international airport in India during international travel, or at an FRRO office. Applicants found eligible are enrolled only after biometrics are captured.

Will I get an immigration stamp at the e-Gate?

No. You can request your travel record (“Travel Data History”) on the e-FRRO portal if you need it.

My own experience and research from official sources, checked on October 13, 2026. Not legal or immigration advice: rules can change, so confirm on the official FTI-TTP portal and the Bureau of Immigration website before you travel.
